We are pleased to introduce the CARESTAR Foundation’s Leadership in Equity Award, celebrating exceptional individuals and teams from California Ambulance Association (CAA) member organizations. This award celebrates change agents who have actively championed greater racial equity in EMS, striving to eliminate racial disparities, challenge systemic barriers, and promote cultural humility.

Details:

  • This leadership award seeks to honor the remarkable efforts of an individual or team throughout the previous calendar year who have actively championed greater racial equity in EMS, striving to eliminate racial disparities, challenge systemic barriers, and promote cultural humility.
  • Individual winners will be awarded $2500, while teams will be awarded $5000. These funds are intended to support and further the individual or team’s vital work in promoting racial equity within the field.
  • The employer of the winning individual or team will gain recognition through various social media activities and may announce their employees’ achievement through a press release, in collaboration with CARESTAR.
  • Each year, one winner will be identified.

Nomination Process:

Individuals and teams from all CAA member companies are eligible to be nominated. Nominations may be submitted by any employee of a CAA member company through this online form. There is no fee to submit a nomination.

Review Process:

All nominations will be reviewed by the CARESTAR Foundation, with a short list of finalists identified by staff. Anonymous profiles showcasing the finalists' work in advancing racial equity will be shared with all CAA members. Employees from CAA member organizations then have the opportunity to cast their vote. The nomination with the most votes will receive the award.

At the CARESTAR Foundation, we are committed to improving health outcomes for all Californians, using a racial equity lens to fund and advocate for improvements in emergency and prehospital care. Through the Leadership in Equity Award, we aim to recognize those who have demonstrated a commitment to helping us achieve this vision. Together, we can ensure all Californians experience emergency and prehospital care that is equitable, unified, and compassionate.
